Since the Surgeon General declared childhood obesity a national epidemic, much attention has been focused on the health risks associated with sedentary lifestyles and poor nutrition. Particular concern is the parallel increase in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes in youth. Solution Action Sports have made it one of our top priorities to educate students across the nation on the importance of leading a healthy life style while staying fit and active.
According to the CDC, 61.5 percent of children ages 9-13 do not participate in any organized physical activity outside of school hours, and 22.6 percent do not engage in any type of physical activity during free time. Our BMX School Assembly will "Educate Through Entertainment". We will use our professional athletes as prime examples of what your students can achieve by making healthy choices and staying active. We encourage every student to put down the video games and get outside and play or join after school programs that will help keep them active. We discuss the benefits of eating healthy and we stress making the responsible choice of staying in school and how hard work and determination will pay off. All of our Action Sport Athletes have made smart choices to Eat Healthy, Stay Active, Be Drug Free, and Work Hard to achieve their goals. Our team prides themselves on leading by example and we use their stories as proof!
Physical activity promotes a heightened sense of well-being and confidence through both teamwork and individual accomplishments. One study found that children ages 9 and 10 who participate in sports tend to have a higher sense of self-worth and physical competence than their peers who do not participate in sports. Physical fitness activities and sports also offer youth an opportunity to challenge cultural and gender stereotypes. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, supervised physical activity may also help steer youth away from crime and delinquency.
